چکیده

The wet air oxidation of phenol over a commercial active carbon catalyst was studied in a trickle bed reactor (TBR) in the temperature and oxygen partial pressure ranges of 120–160 ◦C and 0.1–0.2 MPa, respectively. The performance of the active carbon was compared in terms of phenol and COD destruction. The weight change of active carbon due to reaction was also measured. Finally, oxic phenol adsorption isotherms were assessed in batch conditions at 25, 125 and 160 ◦C. In order to use the conversion data obtained from the TBR for a kinetic study, special care was taken to check the kinetic control in the TBR experiments. Several kinetic models including power law or Langmuir–Hinshelwood expressions were considered to describe the catalytic oxidation of phenol over active carbon. The simple power law model with first order dependence on both phenol and oxygen concentration predicted satisfactorily the experimental data not only over the entire range of operating conditions studied, but also outside its validity range.  2005 Society of Chemical Industry

Water pollution abatement by catalytic wet air oxidation in a trickle bed reactor

Catalytic wet air oxidation of an aqueous phenol solution was carried out in a trickle bed reactor at mild conditions of temperature (120–160◦C) and oxygen partial pressure (0.6–1.2 MPa). Tests were performed at space times up to 1 h. A commercially available copper oxide supported over g-alumina was used as catalyst. The results show that the phenol conversion, the chemical oxygen demand (COD)...

Wet air oxidation of phenol using active carbon as catalyst

Catalytic wet air oxidation is a promising alternative for the treatment of phenolic waste water which cannot be treated in conventional sewage plants. Catalytic wet air oxidation of an aqueous phenol solution was conducted in a ®xed bed reactor operating in trickle ̄ow regime. Either active carbon or a commercial copper oxide supported over -alumina was used as catalyst. The performance of bot...

Kinetics of the Wet Oxidation of Phenol over an Fe/Activated Carbon Catalyst

Wet oxidation of phenol over an Fe/activated carbon catalyst has been studied in a trickle-bed reactor in the following operational window: inlet C phenol=0.5 and 1 g/L, T=100-127 ◦C, PT=3-8 atm, W=0-4.8 g, QL=0.125-2 mL/min and QO2=91.6 NmL/min. The experiments were carried out in the absence of mass transfer limitations. Oxidation and mineralization reactions of phenol are proven to take plac...

Catalytic wet air oxidation of aqueous solution of phenol over Pt/CNF catalyst

The catalytic wet air oxidation (CWAO) of phenol has been studied in trickled bed reactor using 2 wt.% platinum supported on carbon nanofibers (Pt/CNF) as catalyst. The catalyst was prepared by incipient wetness impregnation, and characterized by N2 adsorption, XRD and TEM. The operational variables studied and their range were: total air pressure, temperature, catalyst load, air and liquid flo...

Improved numerical simulation of the low temperature Fischer-Tropsch synthesis in a trickle bed reactor

Abstract Gas to liquid (GTL) process involves heterogeneous catalytic chemical reactions that convert synthesis gas to hydrocarbons and water vapor. A three phase reactor, called Low temperature Fischer-Tropsch (LTFT) is commonly applied for GTL process. In this reactor the gaseous phase includes the synthesis gas, light hydrocarbons and water vapor, the liquid phase is a mixture of the h...
